Short-term Mission Trip to Midwest Mission, July 11-13, 2024
This is a great opportunity to experience a mission trip without making a full-week commitment. We'll leave on Thursday morning. We'll work on Thursday and Friday at the Midwest Mission which is south of Springfield. We'll stay overnight two nights. We'll come home on Saturday. More details will be provided later. This mission trip will have most of the aspects of a full-week mission trip, but shorter. As usual we will be going with other churches. Mark your calendar.

Granite City, IL Mission Trip July 10-15, 2022
Wesley Church went on a mission trip to Granite City, IL to work with Twigs and FIGS. This was an all-ages mission trip with youth and adults. We went on the trip with members of Pekin-First UMC, Savoy UMC, and Prairie River Parish UMC. Twigs has an extensive food program for children. We helped with food distribution to children at multiple locations. The Twigs Community Complex building is in need of repairs and renovation. We worked on various parts of the building. We painted, fixed plumbing, put down new flooring, among other things. This was an exciting project because the Twigs Community Complex is being used by many groups in the area and has become a community center for health, wellness, and fellowship. In addition, we both worked for, and toured, the Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House, in nearby East St. Louis, IL. It was a very fulfilling mission trip. The planning team included Jim Olsen and Kim Woods, from Macomb/Wesley UMC, Pastor Jim McClarey of Pekin/First UMC, and Pastor Cathy Duffy of Prairie River Parish UMC churches.
Wesley Church is taking a work group to the border area of South Texas & Mexico to work with counterparts in Mexico and to gain an awareness of problems of those seeking asylum in the U.S. More information is available on the table outside the church office. Also, look for more details in the October newsletter. Jim Dallmeyer wrote up a report in the July 2020 newsletter. Video here.
MISSION COSTA RICA 2019
We had a mission team go on a mission trip to Costa Rica (leaving December 31, 2018). Thanks to the Fellheimer Committee for the balance of funds needed to make this mission possible. Thanks also to the 13 people of Wesley UMC, Jacksonville UMC and Asbury UMC who gave 11 days and several hundred dollars to help with the construction of the church sanctuary in Carrillos, Costa Rica. Follow us on Facebook - Wesley UMC Macomb, Murrayville and Asbury UMC Costa Rica 2019 - Thanks. From Byron Baughman
Background information: We will be a part in the construction of the church sanctuary for the Methodist Church at Abajo Carrillos. They have had only a covered and screened area for a sanctuary for many years. This is the church our Wesley UMC Macomb teams have worshiped at and worked at for many mission trips helping construct rooms, classrooms, kitchen, and office spaces. This church site just north of Carrillos is also where we successfully had a major part in building a children’s park over several years. For past missions here, I invite you to Facebook and type in “Wesley UMC Macomb”, and then the year you want to see about, plus Costa Rica. Consider James 2:14-26.
There is a Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) trip being planned to the Holy Land, September 10-22, 2018. Hosted by the Methodist Liaison Office in Palestine and Israel. We will be in Nazareth, Jerusalem, and Bethlehem as well as visits to the Sea of Galilee, Nativity Church, Mount of Olives, and many other holy sites. The group leader: Carol Garwood from Dakota City, NE. If you are interested in joining this group and want more info please email me, Byron Baughman at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
The current mission trip will be to Costa Rica December 31 - January 10, 2018.
Byron Baughman is looking for people with interest in a mission trip to Belize February 18 thru 28, 2018.
